The rules of positive and negative numbers are very good to know because you will have to use it in algebra and other questions that might come across in tests.

The basic rules are:

In addition:

-two negatives make a positive

-a positive and a negative make a negative (you can switch it around negative and positive bu only you can do this in addition and multiplication)

In subtraction:

two negatives make a positive

positive and a negative makes a negative  (you can’t switch it around because of its subtraction)

In multiplication:

-two negatives make a positive

-a positive and a negative make a negative (you can switch it around, like eg. negative and positive but you can only do this in addition and multiplication)

In division:

two negatives make a positive

positive and a negative makes a negative  (you can’t switch it around because of its division)
